GOOD CALL
As soon as they moved in,
Tanja had the den,a6ove,
painted. With a crew waiting,
she had to make a snap
decision on the wall color.
Two years later, she picked
the same pale blue for the
new kitchen. “Benjamin
Moore’s Sea Foam is the best
thing that ever happened to
this house,” Tanja jokes.
SPACE EXPLORATION
Builder Bill Beasley wrung
every bit of usable space from
under the kitchen stairs,
right
,
including a butler’s pantry
closet and a nook for a pull-
out recycling bin. Front and
center is Tanja’s must-have
magnetic message board. tfS)

WINNING
WISDOM
from Tanja Vujic
■ Have a plan,
but be flexible.
I really wanted
soapstone
countertops, but
when I saw samples,
the geology major in
me knew it would
never stand up to
kids in the kitchen.
Honed black granite
fit the bill for looks
and durability, plus
it was less expensive
than anything else I
had looked at.”
■ Use a cabinet
designer.
‘They
know all the proper
dimensions and can
make sure your
kitchen has a good
work triangle.”
■ Don’t forget
the drawers.
“I wish I had more
of them in the
island. Drawers
are more expensive
than shelves, but
for storing some
things, they’re
just handier.”
